Tasting Notes

Light straw with a hint of green. aroma of this wine has all the varietal hallmarks of cool climate Yarra Valley pinot gris; pear, fig, apple blossom, and a touch of spice. The palate is rich and long, with ripe fruits enhanced by subtle nuances of macadamia nuts, warm toast and soft cheese. The lovely, creamy mid palate precedes a refreshingly crisp finish.

Vineyard

The pinot gris grapes for the 2010 Domaine Chandon Pinot Gris were grown outside the town of Healesville, in the foot hills of the Yarra Valley. The vineyards were meticulously managed to ensure yields were maintained at low levels and canopies were fresh and healthy. This allowed the grapes to achieve full flavour ripeness in conjunction with well balanced sugar and acid levels.

Wine Making

Hand harvesting of the vineyards took place during the third week of March when grapes were showing optimal varietal fruit expression. Careful hand harvesting and subsequent whole bunch pressing ensured the juice was in pristine condition prior to fermentation.  Fermentation occurred partly in stainless steel tank under strict temperature control, and partly in seasoned French oak which then underwent lees stirring to build a textured wine. The final stages of blending, clarification and bottling occurred in July.
